Introduction to product photography: 2-day course

What you'll do

Product photography is a big deal for any business. It can create a great first impression and drive sales. It's a form of storytelling about your brand, that can manage, or even better, exceed customers' expectations.

There's a real art to this form of advertising. But it takes some skill to master it.

Your host Ester, a Bristol camerawoman, is inviting you to join her for this product photography course. Learn from a professional all their best-kept secrets. It doesn't matter if you don't much practice behind the camera - all that matters is you're ready to up your game and build your brand.

In this two-day weekend course, Ester will teach you all the ins and outs of product photography: styling, lighting, grouping and editing. Leave with tips at your fingertips to snap great product shots for social media, Etsy, or your website, and generate new sales.

What will you learn?

  • Discover your own product photography style - from organic or colourful, to dark and moody
  • Light your scene for any occasion
  • Style your scene with suitable backgrounds and props
  • Experiment with all types of product photography for a complete portfolio
  • Product photography tips and tricks
  • Basic editing
  • Lots of hands-on practice with access to a wide range of props, products and backdrops (or bring your own)

How will the days be structured?

This two-day course will be a healthy balance between learning and putting your knowledge to the test. Ester is a firm believer in learning through trial and error!

On both days there are set morning and afternoon sessions, with each having an element of theory and learning, with plenty of time to put things into practice. You will always come back to collectively looking at and learning from each other's work. Product photography is ultimately a creative craft so bouncing ideas off one another is encouraged.

What kit do you need?

You will need a camera body you like to use, plus any lenses you think could be useful. If you have a tripod bring that along as well. A laptop will be useful for editing - bring some pen and paper of course! You will be provided with props, backdrops, products to photograph (if you need), c-stands and tripods, and lighting equipment.

About Photography by Ester

Ester is a camerawoman and wildlife-turned-product photographer. This creative offers engaging in-person and online photography workshops.

Empowering small businesses and getting their products photo-ready is the name of the game. Making products shine gives Ester great joy, as does working intimately with others to achieve the most creative campaigns.

Your host

Ester de Roij

Ester is a wildlife camerawoman. After focusing on product photography during the pandemic, Ester decided to start selling her own jewellery.

Not finding much out there for product photographers, especially for people who make 2D jewellery (which is tricky to photograph), Ester chose to marry up her two skills. Since she loves teaching people photography she decided to take on the challenge and share her new skill with the lovely people of Bristol.
