Join us on Wednesday 16 December for a special evening of history and live music, marking two birthdays: Beethoven’s 256th, which falls tonight, and Humphry Davy’s 248th, which we celebrate with three days of events at the house, starting this evening.
We begin with a short guided tour exploring the house and its remarkable history: Romantic poets, radical philosophy and the strange science of laughing gas.
After an interval with a complimentary glass of champagne and warm mince pies, Simon Kodurand (violin) and Harriet Wiltshire (cello) from the Bristol Ensemble play a programme including Beethoven, Playford and Haydn – by candlelight in the drawing room.
Places are strictly limited to 20 guests.
Programme – Wednesday 16 December:
As the music is performed by candlelight in an intimate room, we cannot admit latecomers once the concert begins. If you’re delayed, arriving during the interval (7.30–8.00pm) will still catch the performance, though you’ll miss the tour.
Please note: this venue involves stairs.
Age restrictions: 18+
| Adult | £50 |
Arrival: Door opens at 6:45pm. Tour and talk begin promptly at 7:00pm.
Getting here: We're at 6 Dowry Square, Hotwells, a 20-minute walk from Bristol city centre along Hotwell Road, with regular buses stopping nearby. On-street parking nearby is metered until 7pm and free afterwards. Spaces on and around the square can be limited. Alternative parking includes South Green Street, Albemarle Row, Granby Hill, or Clifton Vale. We recommend arriving on foot or by public transport where possible.
