EmailWhat is animate and sip? Grab a drink, get creative, and discover the magic of stop motion animation! In this relaxed two-hour workshop, you'll sculpt your own clay characters, learn the basics of animation, and leave with your own mini film - no experience needed. It's the perfect creative night out with friends, a place to meet people, a unique date idea, or something different for a hen or stag celebration.
Taught by a stop motion animator:
My name is Maraike Kraemer, and I'm a professional stop motion animator with experience working on productions including Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run and Shaun the Sheep, I'll guide you through the fundamentals before you create your own short animation. No previous experience is needed - just bring your curiosity and creativity. ˙ᵕ˙
What to expect:
The workshops takes place at the Porto Lounge in Bristol, where a fun environment is guaranteed. You can grab your favourite drink from the bar before settling in for an evening of animation. (drinks not included in ticket price) We'll begin with a simple introduction to the basics of stop motion and the Stop Motion Studio app. Once everyone's feeling confident, you'll start sculpting your own clay characters and creating your animation. If you've animated before, you're welcome to jump straight into making your film.
Need inspiration? I'll have plenty of fun story prompts to get your imagination going but you're free to animate whatever you like!

Take your finished animation and sculpts home to keep forever

Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time. Drinks are not included. Every participant will get time to fetch their drinks at the bar.

Hi!
I'm Maraike, the owner of Jolly Fox Studio.
As a professional stop-motion animator, I’ve had the pleasure of working on films & series like "Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget", "Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl", "Shaun the Sheep" Series 7, and "Pokémon Tales: The Misadaventures Of Sirfetch'd & Pichu" at Aardman Animations.
Animation and teaching are my greatest passions, and with Jolly Fox Studio, I’m lucky enough to combine both. My approach to teaching is centered around inclusivity, creating a space where everyone feels comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. I believe the best way to learn is through enjoyment, where making mistakes is part of the fun, not something to be afraid of.
At Jolly Fox Studio, I offer a range of workshops, including Kid's Claymation, Animate & sip sessions for a relaxed go at stop motion animation for adults, needle felting, where you can create felted objects and, if you’d like, animate them, as well as stop-motion animation courses for beginners and intermediate animators. My beginner courses are perfect for those new to animation, offering a relaxed, fun introduction. For those who are ready to take their skills to the next level, the intermediate courses provide a deeper dive into industry-level techniques.
I also offer feedback sessions for showreels and am available for talks and interviews.
