EmailDuring this one-off workshop in a small group setting, you will confidently learn how to use a domestic sewing machine. Includes sewing machine set–up, threading, machine functions, stitch control, basic trouble shooting and an introduction to to at least two practical seam types.
This is a perfect workshop for complete beginners or those wanting a refresher and a great taster session for the courses on offer at The Island.
What to expect:
- Hands-on workshop in a small group setting.
- Learn to use a domestic sewing machine confidently.
- Instruction on sewing machine setup, threading, and functions.
- Guidance on stitch control and basic troubleshooting.
- Introduction to at least two practical seam types.

Lisa's sewing class was great. I learned more than I thought considering I'm a complete novice and Lisa made everything so easy to pick up. I'm definitely going to do another of her classes on mending/altering. Would highly recommend if you are thinking of learning how to stitch/sew

I had an excellent time at Lisa’s sewing workshop. I knew absolutely nothing and am not very practical, but Lisa explained everything so well I really gained confidence. Will definitely return to her for other classes. Small class size, good length, highly recommend.

On the day
- Please meet on the main entrance to The Island when you arrive.
- There is no need to bring anything to the class, all the equipment, tools, fabrics other resources are provided.
- Parking & Local Transport: The Island is situated on the edge of Broadmead very close to the bus station and other bus routes. The closest car park is the Galleries Broadmead or Cabot Circus
- Access: The studio at The Island is based on the first floor and unfortunately there is no lift in the building.
