This multi-week course guides you step by step through the complete jewellery-making process—from carving wax to finishing your own cast pieces. With expert tuition from Steve, you’ll build skills gradually, gaining confidence and creative independence as the weeks progress. This course starts on Friday February 20th at 6pm, and runs for 7 weeks.
Week 1: Foundations & Tools
Begin with a hands-on introduction to the essential tools and materials used in wax carving. You’ll learn:
How to choose, adapt, and modify carving tools
The different types of wax and their uses
Recommended equipment, suppliers, and resources
You’ll practise a range of core carving techniques using multiple tools, then finish the session with an introduction to the design process, helping you develop ideas ready for the weeks ahead.
Weeks 2–6: Design & Supported Carving
Over the next sessions, you’ll focus on developing your designs and refining your carving skills with ongoing guidance and support. These weeks are dedicated to:
Translating ideas into carved wax designs
Improving precision, detail, and finish
Preparing your pieces for professional casting
Steve will be on hand throughout to offer feedback, advice, and technical support.
Casting Break
A one-week break allows time for your wax pieces to be professionally cast, bringing your designs to life in metal.
Week 7: Finishing & Polishing
In the final session, you’ll learn how to:
Clean up your cast jewellery
Refine details and surfaces
Finish and polish your pieces to a wearable standard
By the end of the course, you’ll leave with completed jewellery and a solid understanding of the full process—from concept to finished piece.
