Bristol is world-famous for its graffiti, so let the endless eye-catching murals and striking art that covers our streets inspire the budding street artist within you.
In this workshop, hosted by an active and experienced graffiti writer, you'll get an in-depth insider's perspective on the culture and history of graffiti, right here in the UK's graffiti capital.
Your host Tom will show you how to get hands-on with a spray can, before you try both freehand and stencilling styles and techniques in a safe and controlled environment. With this newfound skill and knowledge, you'll get creative and design your own ‘piece’ ‘tag’ and 'throwup'
Tom will begin by sharing his portfolio, inspiration and tips on how to create attention-grabbing designs. You’ll get the opportunity to design your name on to canvas, using one of Tom’s pre-designed templates, or your own, if you’re feeling adventurous. Your personalised canvas will then be yours to keep!
Tom will cover everything from different techniques, to paints, caps, lettering styles, the legalities of graffiti, and everything else you need to know.
Next up, you’ll get to grips with stencil cutting – Tom will weigh up the difference between stencil and freehand, suggesting original ideas for both.
A spray paint demonstration will be followed by a chance to work collectively with the other guests on a large collaborative piece, overlaid with stencils.
This workshop is a lot of fun no matter what your age, so why not make the most of our special group rate – sign up as a family and create memories as well as art!
Safety talks will be provided throughout the session.

"The Bristol Graffiti Workshop" is a fun and educational experience hosted in the heart of the UK's Graffiti capital, open for all ages to have the opportunity to practice the art of Graffiti in a safe and controlled environment with direction and support of a professional local street artist.
Leading graffiti artist Tom Sturgess graduated from the University of the West of England (UWE) in 2017 with a BA in Fine Art. He is fascinated with minimal mark-making, pursuing restrained actions on a large scale, examining the tools he uses and rebuilding them from scratch. Tom is well-versed in sharing his passion and skills with others, both through the 4 Elements workshops that began at Shindig Festival and through all his experience introducing young people to graffiti by creating murals.
My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the workshop whilst learning so much. It has really inspired her.
Really enjoyed it , learnt a lot, Tom was a great teacher.
This is not just for kids- if you want to have a go at something different while having fun, go for it. You come away with the skills to get going on your own, whether you are a professional artist in a diffent field or just want to have a go at something new. I now look at graffiti in a different way. Thank you
