Think crochet, think granny square. Mastering this iconic element is the perfect introduction to your crochet journey. In this beginner's workshop, your host Emma will share everything you need to know to crochet your own retro-style granny squares.
Your creativity will flow in this relaxed, informal environment as Emma runs through the stitches and demonstrates a couple of different crochet pattern options. Before you get to work on your own classic squares, you’ll choose from either 100% Merino wool or recycled cotton, both available in plenty of colours.
Emma will be on hand if you need help or inspiration, and for all you fast learners, she can show you how to move on to combining stitches and changing wool colour to create more challenging patterns.
All materials are provided so you just need to bring yourself and a notebook if you want to jot down any reminders.
At the end of the workshop, you'll leave with all the squares you’ve made, along with a bamboo crochet hook, a handy printed crochet guide, and either a ball of 100% Merino wool or recycled cotton... Because we know you'll want to keep crocheting at home!
There will also be the opportunity to buy extra balls of yarn if you are inspired to make your squares into a big, snuggly blanket.
During the workshop you'll enjoy tea, coffee and soft drinks so please get in touch before if you have any allergies or dietary requirements.
Emma launched Stitching Me Softly in 2017 and runs calm, relaxing crochet and craft workshops. All of her workshops are hosted in small groups, allowing plenty of time for guests to really get the hang of each technique and make their own gorgeous accessories using sustainable materials.
Emma taught herself to crochet eight years ago whilst pregnant with her second daughter and then spent time honing her skills. These skills mean she can now design and make items for her own children that she couldn’t find on the high street. She is drawn to simple geometric shapes and contrasting colour pallets and loves sharing her passion and crafting with others.

With ten years of crochet experience and loving nothing more than sharing her passion for crafting with others, Emma quickly realised after starting Stitching Me Softly three years ago that other people might also love to learn how to make their own beautiful crochet creations! She then focused on designing a range of craft kits and workshops that could be enjoyed by complete beginners whilst also offering a challenge and new technique to those with some experience.
