EmailCome and spend some time in the Fubsies studio and give ceramic hand building a go!
This is a 3.5 hour workshop where you will design and create your own clay friend. You will use handbuilding and painted glaze decoration techniques to produce a small ornamental character entirely from your own imagination! Most commonly people chose cats with snacks but you can really do whatever you like.
You will be introduced to basics of character design and then shown how to turn your ideas into a 3D piece of art using various handbuilding techniques. Pottery is an easy way to sculpt and build up a 3D form so you will see you ideas come to life quickly. Once your piece has taken shape you will have access to lots of tools that will help you refine and add surface texture. Finally you will decorate your creation using colourful underglazes to add the finishing touches. And voila! You have created your own piece of clay art in just a few hours!
Ceramics is a wonderful way to unwind and let go and this workshop is open to anyone and everyone! If you have ever been tempted to give ceramics a go then come and join this fun and informal session.
This workshop includes:
- An introduction into handbuilding techniques
- An opportunity to let your imagine run wild and create an ornamental piece of pottery
- Learn about underglazes and how to decorate your creation
- All materials included
- Tea, coffee and biscuits included
- Suitable for all people and all abilities
- All post-workshop firing, processing and handling included
Please note: Once the session has finished your piece will need to be left to dry out before going through two separate kiln firings and a layer of shiny transparent glaze. All of this processing will be done by your host and will take approx 2-4 weeks to complete. You will be contacted once your pieces are ready to collect.

COVID-19 guidelines
Sanitiser will be provided for use on entry to the class. Masks are not a requirement but please feel free to wear one if you feel more comfortable doing so.
On the day
- The Fubsies studio is located just off the Cheltenham Road so there are plenty of public transport options and it is a short walk from the city centre.
- Wear practical clothes and shoes which you don’t mind getting dirty. Clay washes out of most fabrics but pottery is a messy business!
- Feel free to bring an apron if you want to protect your clothing.
- Keep your nails short. It just makes life easier and ensures you don’t damage your piece.

Ruth is the owner of Fubsies which she has been running since November 2020. Fubsies aims to bring you ceramics that can spread some joy and happiness through playful character based designs.
Ruth loves giving personality to animals, food or anything she can imagine. She likes to create colourful pieces with an attention to detail and surface texture. She is excited to welcome you into her studio and for you to give pottery a go!
