Yuup COVID-19 statement
Updated Friday 11 September
The safety of our customers and hosts is very important to us.
Following announcement by the UK Government that the rule of 6 will come into effect on Monday 14 September we have reviewed our operations and introduced additional measures to ensure the safety of our hosts and customers.
Our experience hosts are required to follow the current government guidelines on COVID-19 when delivering experiences and many are required to undertake risk assessments in line with these guidelines and put any necessary mitigations in place.
Each experience listed on Yuup includes COVID-19 guidance prepared by the host describing the specific measures that they have put in place to ensure your safety.
How is Yuup managing the rule of 6?
From Monday 14 September, new UK government legislations means that individuals must not meet with people from other households socially in groups of more than 6. To ensure compliance with this legislation we have restricted the maximum group size for a single booking on Yuup to 6 people.
Are there circumstances where more than 6 people will attend the same experience?
For the majority of our experiences the rule of 6 means that not more than 6 people can attend the same experience at the same time.
There are some exemptions to this where multiple groups of up to 6 people may attend the same experience at the same time. Examples of experiences currently listed on our platform where exemptions apply, include:
- Guided tours of up to 30 people may take place indoors or outdoors provided experience hosts undertake risk assessments in line with the government guidance and put any necessary mitigations in place.
- Experiences delivered in a COVID-19 secure hospitality venue where multiple groups of up to 6 people can be accommodated provided (a) the total number of people does not exceed 30; (b) groups of up to 6 do not mix or form larger groups; and (c) experience hosts undertake risk assessments in line with the government guidance and put any necessary mitigations in place. Examples of a hospitality venue might include a visitor attraction or other public venue.
Are there circumstances where fewer than 6 people will be able to attend specific experiences?
Some experiences already have a maximum capacity lower than six depending on the type of experience, the suitability of the venue to accommodate 6 people and our experience hosts’ preferring host to participant ratio.
There are also experiences where the host will count as one of the 6 people, meaning that the maximum number of participants will be limited to 5 people. An example of this is a food tour where the host and the experience participants will visit a restaurant setting as part of a walking tour and therefore collectively cannot exceed a group of 6 including the host.
Data collection by the experience venue
In order to support NHS Test & Trace and contain COVID-19 clusters or outbreaks, please note that some of our experience hosts (for example those operating at hospitality venues) are now legally required to keep a temporary record of customers and visitors for 21 days.
In the event that a customer needs to cancel an experience booking after the cancellation period has expired due to either exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or testing positive for COVID-19, we will work with the relevant experience hosts to wherever possible reschedule your experience. However, after the cancellation period has expired we cannot guarantee that a reschedule will be possible because often our experience hosts will have already incurred costs when preparing for the experience.
Given the evolving nature of the situation we will continue to monitor government guidelines and update our policy and practices as appropriate.
Please contact us with any specific questions regarding how Yuup and our experience hosts are working to ensure COVID-19 safety. We are always happy to discuss any specific concerns that you may have.
