The Cider Box delves deep into the world of craft cider, with some of the best ciders in the South West. The Bristol cider tour is their latest chance for cider lovers and anyone who fancies discovering more about this spectacular beverage to celebrate cider.
We spoke to Dan Heath, founder of The Cider Box and host of this completely unique cider experience, about what to expect on the tour and why Bristol is the perfect place for cider enthusiasts...
How did you first get the idea of founding The Cider Box?
I first got the idea for The Cider Box 8 years ago! Being a Somerset boy living in London, I was unable to find a good pint of real cider, and something had to be done. I left London to set up The Cider Box in 2013, first moving to deepest Somerset and then setting up here in Bristol.
What is it about the craft cider scene that you like most?
The provenance. Cider connects us to our rural landscapes more than most other beverages, and the people who make it are some of the most fantastic, weird and wonderful characters we could wish for.
What is your top Bristol tip for anyone visiting the city?
Explore the independent restaurants and bars of the city. We're blessed with a huge selection of different options, from some of the UK's most interesting indies. It really is a foodie's dream.
What makes Bristol the perfect place to get into cider?
The city is straddled in between some of the best cider making regions in the world. Wales to the west, Herefordshire to the north and Somerset, Dorset and Devon to the south and between that lot, the city is flooded with fine cider.
What do you love most about Bristol?
The history, diversity, waterfront, the green spaces, the people and their energy - and the best foodie and craft beverage scene we've experienced.
What moments throughout your journey with The Cider Box really stand out?
Opening our Tap Room in Bristol has to be up there. It's been the most exciting thing we've done, against the backdrop of the strangest of times, with amazing levels of support from the people of Bristol!
What do you hope people will get out of The Cider Box’s Bristol cider tour?
A heady mix of good stories, all of them true, along with tasty cider, all of it local, and conversations with some of the city's cider heroes.
Why have you decided to share your experiences on Yuup?
It’s a great chance to share ciders, stories, and sights with fellow Bristolians, and visitors to the city.
What other Yuup experience would you like to go on?
Book the Bristol cider tour with Dan, on Yuup.
