On the 80th anniversary of Operation Chastise, the RAF’s legendary and audacious mission to bomb the Ruhr Valley dams, BFF are thrilled to present The Dam Busters, the 1955 classic inspired by the true story. This epic of British cinema has been beautifully restored digitally, and remains a gripping account of one of the most daring actions of the Second World War.

As part of this milestone anniversary screening, there will be a short introduction to the film detailing Bristol’s crucial role in aeronautical history, particularly its part in the Second World War.

During the Second World War, aeronautical engineer Barnes Wallis is working on an invention that he hopes will cripple the German industrial heartland of the Ruhr Valley. He develops an ingenious ‘bouncing bomb’, but now he has to convince his superiors to green-light the project, and assemble an elite squadron to pull off this most daring of missions…

Concorde Foxtrot Alpha was the last of its kind to be built and the last to fly; it ended its journey in Bristol and is now displayed in a custom-built hangar at Aerospace Bristol. Explore onboard then watch aviation-themed films beneath the wings of this iconic plane.
