Focuses will include:

Vocal clarity & exploration of sound

Harnessing movement to create images

Improvisational spontaneity

Embodying characters, textures & emotions

Deborah's ability to evoke the intuitive aspects of storytelling, makes her highly regarded performance workshops what they are. After an introduction to myths & fairy tales, your experience will begin with warm-up exercises for your body & voice. You'll participate in several games that will connect your body with your imagination. Your group will begin exploring storytelling techniques which you'll then be invited to practice, applying them to sections of the myth or fairytale you’ve chosen.

On the second day, you’ll explore narrative structures, the storyteller’s relationship with the audience, and the use of the performance space. The weekend will close with an informal sharing of your unique storytelling with the workshop group.

Throughout the weekend your host Deborah will offer tailored 1:1 feedback. The opportunity to be part of a supportive audience and to perform for the workshop group, offers invaluable learning opportunities, as you build your storyteller's tool kit!

Your host

Deborah Antoinette Ward

Deborah is a performer, theatre-maker, storyteller & facilitator. She believes stories hold deep healing potential. She also thinks laughter is the perfect remedy for acknowledging how absurd the world can be. Deborah digs into myths, flies with magical fairytales and revels in writing theatre sketches that shake-sh*t-up.

Her explorations of the self extend to the realm of systematic constellations. This is a collective healing practice that focuses on our personal stories, seeking movement in places where relationships and narratives become stuck. Deborah's the co-creator of the comedy show 'Queen C*t - Sacred or Profane?', the movement show 'Raven' and a feminist storyteller.
