Looking to get creative and learn a new skill? Then join Stirchley Printworks for a fun and hands-on lino printing workshop!

Lino printing is a printmaking technique, where designs are carved onto a linoleum block before being inked up and pressed onto paper. This makes for unique, bold and striking artwork.

In this experience, you will spend the day learning how to use the artistic technique of lino printing.

Your host for this short course is Stirchley Printworks, who are experts in all things printmaking. Under their wing, you will learn all about different processes and techniques to create lino-cut printed artwork.

What to expect:

  • A day course introducing you to the world of lino printing
  • Learn how to use carving tools, rollers and cutters
  • Plenty of support and guidance from your host
  • Learn about inks and specialist papers
  • All tools and equipment provided
  • Have a go at Jigsaw and Reduction techniques to make multicoloured prints

This course is great for those who are just starting out in lino, or for anyone who's tried it before and is looking to blow the dust off their rollers!

  • Workshops are small, with plenty of room to space out.
  • All equipment is cleaned regularly and hand sanitiser and wipes are available.

On the day

  • Please aim to arrive 5 minutes early to get settled in.
  • Your host has a 24/7 car park and is close to Bournville train station and Stirchley high street.
  • The studio can get a little chilly, so please bring some warm clothing.
  • Please bring a sketchbook for notes and doodling ideas.
  • Please also bring along some images from magazines or printouts for a little inspiration!

James Turner (He/Him)

James Turner is a Birmingham-based printmaker, Lecturer and Technician. He is a founding member of Stirchley Printworks a print studio and workshop based in south Birmingham.
James studied for a BA in Fine Art at Birmingham City University and an MA in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking at The University of The West of England, Bristol.
