Foraging for infused oils and balms

What you'll do

During this hands-on foraging experience, your host Maria will help you unearth the delights of sustainable foraging and plant identification – you’ll be shown how to spot soothing plants and flowers in particular, as you’ll later add these to your own herbal balms.

Maria will use her local knowledge to lead you along specially selected footpaths around the beautiful outskirts of Bristol, from Keynsham towards Hanham Lock. As you walk, you’ll come across lots of riverside plants and Maria will help you discover how to identify them. The riverside walk will also take you inland at points so you can see how plants grow in different environments.

You'll then learn how to infuse the plants you’ve collected into different oils for edible and topical use. Maria will expertly talk you through different ways to make infused oils and how to process wild and medicinal herbs so you can make your own soothing balms to take home.

This experience is suitable for beginners and advanced foragers.

Minimum fitness level required.

About Healing Weeds

Healing Weeds started with a mission to share knowledge about the amazing plants that live around us and to empower people with practical skills to confidently make herbal remedies from these wild medicines. Foraging walks are a chance to find different plants, see where they grow and and learn more about how to harvest them and what healing properties they hold. Wild medicine workshops are practical courses, teaching you easy ways to process these plants, including how to make infused oils, decoctions, tinctures, tea blends and balms.

How to get there

What people are saying

This was my second foraging experience with healing weeds and it was every bit as enjoyable an informative as the previous ‘fruit cordials and syrups’ experience. Maria’s expert knowledge and bubbly personality make her a great host. The experience consists of a walk looking at some of the flora, discussing its uses and properties, followed by an opportunity to make a balm which we could take away.
I would thoroughly recommend to anyone interested in learning more about foraging.

A really excellent day. Maria was a great Host, knowledgable easy going and fun. We have never done anything like this before and the whole experience was enthralling. perfectly rounded off with a practical demonstration and 'hands on' demonstration of how to make your own 'healing' and beneficial remedy using the flora we had collected that morning. Thoroughly recommended.
