Explore New Zealand - wine tasting

What you'll do

There's no denying New Zealand's wine is taking the world by storm, but have you ever paused to appreciate its unique charm? This wine tasting will unveil all.

New Zealand isn't just one of the most isolated countries on earth, being a three-hour plane ride from its nearest neighbour, Australia. It's also a relative newcomer to the wine world. This small wine-producing region, once covered in tropical rainforest, has come a long way. Not only developing its vineyards but rapidly adapting to have mass international appeal.

The wine industry's always buzzing with new companies, new labels, and the latest movers and shakers. But it was one distinctive grape variety that made the world take notice of these islands back in the early 1980s: Sauvignon Blanc.

Despite being in latitudes between those of Lebanon and Bordeaux (in other words, very hot), this heat is countered by the Pacific and mountains' effect on the rain clouds. Factors that give both islands a range of growing conditions suitable for hosting a wide variety of different grapes.

Led by DBM, join them in this experience as you taste your way from Gisborne to Central Otago. You'll be sampling six wines from some fantastic producers, including Kumeu River, Greywacke and Two Paddocks. They will be happy to answer any questions as you embark on this tantalising journey. It's time to deepen your appreciation for wine, learn something new and sample some of New Zealand's finest offerings.
