Discover how to make vibrant collagraph prints in this introductory workshop at Ridgeway Studios!
What's a collagraph?
A collagraph is a print made from a collage of various textured materials. This can be anything from cardboard to leaves, string, sandpaper, seeds or fabric. These are then glued to a flat surface to make a printing plate.
How it works:
The printing plate is inked up, typically by hand, and then printed onto paper using a press or manually. This form of relief printing allows artists to create interesting marks and tonal effects using different materials. Collagraph printing can be used alone or with other printing processes like etching.
What to expect:
This is a fun and experimental approach to printmaking - you'll be amazed by the striking results!

Bristol Print Room is run by printmaker Steph Renshaw. Steph offers workshops for beginners and experienced printmakers. Her courses include lino printing and intaglio printing, such as drypoint, collagraph and etching.
Workshops are small and intimate. They're designed to be encouraging and supportive, helping guests of all abilities harness their creativity. Small groups means plenty of guidance can be given to guests, to help them navigate the endless possibilities of printmaking. Steph believes Bristol Print Room has flourished thanks to the enthusiasm and raw talent of this city's people.
Steph is a printmaker. She founded Bristol Print Room in 2017.
Steph learned the craft of printmaking after hours of dedicated practice, enrolling in courses across the UK. Steph has built up a professional portfolio of her work since, hosting workshops in intaglio and relief printmaking.
Three of Steph's prints were selected for Print International 2019. She was also selected to exhibit in the RWA Open 2020. Steph sells her work at local Bristol art fairs - she's also represented by Cambridge Contemporary Art gallery. This printmaker's excited about where her journey will take her next...
Beyond having a passion for art and creativity of all kinds, Steph has a lifelong love for nature. (Reflected by her decision to study Environmental Biology at Aberystwyth University.) Nature is always a source of inspiration for Steph and one that she welcomes into her art with open arms.
