Immerse yourself in the craft of weaving and learn how to make your own unique nature inspired wall hanging, in this two hour workshop. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some previous experience with textiles, everyone is welcome.
Your experience will be hosted by Mary, a textile artist who loves sharing her passion for weaving and creating a relaxed and supportive environment to allow guests to explore their creativity. During the workshop at Bristol’s Textile Quarter, you'll discover how to warp your loom, design and plan your weaving and try a variety of weaving techniques. You'll have a chance to experiment with a wide range of different yarns to create pattern and texture. Mary will help you turn your design ideas into a woven wall hanging, making sure to give each guest one on one time during the workshop. Mary is an enthusiastic host and during your experience you'll find yourself switching off from the day to day and immersing yourself in the creative process. You’ll leave with your finished piece and the basic skills to continue your weaving journey.
You'll have a large range of vintage, recycled and natural yarns, sourced from small scale yarn providers. The experience will be for a socially distanced group of 5-6 people, and everything you need including a loom and all materials will be ready on the day.
There are no upcoming dates for this experience.
Existing dates have all sold out, but you can book now and schedule later when new dates are released.

You're welcome to bring an image to inspire your wall hanging. Please bring an extra layer to wear as the studio can get a little chilly during the evening.

Mary is a textile artist and the creator of this experience. She was a London lawyer when she bought her first loom and taught herself to weave. What started out as a hobby to do in the evenings soon became a passion and she decided to leave law to focus full time on weaving, sharing her passion with others through her workshops. She left London for Bristol two years ago in search of a slower pace and to be closer to the countryside. One of the many reasons Mary loves weaving is that there are few rules and there is huge scope to be creative and express your own personality and style. She finds the process of weaving both meditative and freeing and enjoys being able to share this with her weaving students. Her weaving experiences give people a chance to completely switch off and explore their creativity in a relaxed, supportive environment. Mary's woven work is heavily influenced by the natural world and her travels in nature. Her first book "Weaving" published by Quadrille has just been released.View more experiences by Mary Maddocks
